Men’s NCAA Gymnastics 2026 week 3 Snapshot

The Big Picture

Stanford achieved the highest team score so far this season (326.45) along with the highest total team D score of the season (121.5). Whoever wants to beat these guys has their work cut out for them.

The Stanford meet featured the season AA debut of Asher Hong, with a score of 80.3. Asher Hong is the first person in the NCAA to break 80 in the AA this season. Jun Iwai made his NCAA AA debut with a score of 78.25. He was rotating with a separate group of Stanford-associated athletes, which also included Riley Loos (who competed PH and FX), marking his first time competing since Winter Cup 2025. Ohio State (318.05) and California (313.95) both scored season highs, with California holding its own against Ohio State until the last three rotations.

GymACT team Bay Area Bandits also competed, including Evan Hymanson, who competed for Nebraska starting in 2016 and has found a path other than Elite to stay in the sport.

Oklahoma held off Michigan to win by 1.2 points (321.85 to 320.65). The competition saw the season debut of Fred Richard, who competed in all events but FX and VT. Adam Lakomy made his NCAA debut on VT (4.8/13.65). Neither team had a perfect meet, and I think this meet could have gone either way. Oklahoma had 1.9 points more difficulty, but that is not an insurmountable margin. Keep an eye on OU freshman Colby Aranda on PH.

The University of Illinois and Penn State finished in a dead heat with team scores of 317.75. Illinois improved upon their last score by 10.55 points. The two teams had the same total team E score and almost identical difficulty. This meet could have been won or lost by stick bonuses and neutral deductions. EVO also had a team at this meet (The Sam Mikulak Invitational), which finished first with a score of 326.15. Shane Wiskus of EVO returned to competition for the first time since 2024 Olympic Trials to score the highest AA in the nation so far (80.55).

The Navy Open saw Navy score 309.3 to Springfield’s 302.8 and William and Mary’s 201.35. Some of the scores on the PDF don’t add up. For example, there was an FX score with a D of 4.8 and an E of 8.2, which somehow came out to a total of 12.95. Others were too high. Someone might want to fix that. I went off the official scores when creating my meet snapshots. I doubt a correction would change the results of this meet, but if the score ends up in the NQS, which determines which teams go to the NCAA Championships, it could make a difference in who advances if it’s close. That would not be good.

There were questions about how the new requirement for the performance of a D skill to get full element group credit of 0.5 would affect parity. So far, I don’t see much effect.
